Barbados Diaspora Collaborative USA (BDC USA) Formed; Develops Plans for Hospice

As part of its 5th anniversary celebration in 2010, the Barbados Cancer Association USA (BACA), Inc. convened a roundtable of Barbadian organizations in New York and the Northeast USA to discuss ways of collectively aiding the health sector in Barbados. The strategy of marshalling the resources of US organizations to help fund projects in Barbados had long been on BACA’s agenda, but was made even more relevant by then Prime Minister David Thompson's push for diaspora collaboration at the Barbados Network Consultation’s 2010 Inaugural Diaspora Conference.

Subsequent meetings identified the need for a standalone hospice and palliative care faclity in Barbados and thus was born the Barbados Hospice Initiative.

BDC USA was incorporated in the State of New York in 2012 and attained 501 (c) 3 federal tax exempt status in 2014 to nurture the hospice initiative and develop other projects of benefit to Barbados and the Barbados diaspora.
